Phoenix, AZ -- Western New Mexico women's basketball team got outscored 46-17 in the second half to drop their season opener 77-42 to Grand Canyon University in Phoenix Wednesday night.

The Mustangs made a game of it in the first half, trailing only 31-25 after the first stanza, but they could not escape the Antelope stampede after the intermission.

Tannesia Manley led the Mustangs with 15 points and five rebounds.

The Mustangs shot a chilly 27 percent from the floor in the game to Canyon's 46 percent. Grand Canyon dominated the boards, pulling down 46 -- a number that is skewed because of Western's poor shooting.

The Mustangs will get a rematch against the Lopes in their next outing ... November 21 in Silver City. Game time is 7:30pm.
